Instruments of Cubism, Staunton/Augusta Art Center,
June 30, 2017 to August 4, 2017
Instruments of Cubism is a project that focused on the still- life paintings of musical instruments that were created by the painters Pablo Picasso (1881-1973 ), George Braque (1882-1963) and Juan Gris (1887-1927) during the period immediately preceding the First World War.
The works included in this exhibit were inspired by specific works of the three artists. In much the same way that Picasso, Braque and Gris painted from still lifes, I have taken their paintings and created assemblages, sculptures and some collages based on their works. In this sense, the works included in this exhibit represent a re-imagination of the original still lifes.
Included below are the works from the exhibit–as well as the source (1. Picasso, 2. Braque and 3. Gris). Dimensions are included for each of the works.
